Silver and gold wedding anniversaries are well known, marking the milestones of twenty five and fifty years of marriage respectively. A gemstone anniversary list was endorsed by the Jewellers of America and many other gem associations, matching each anniversary year to a specific gemstone or metal. It differs from the traditional anniversary gift list, allowing you to get to the good gifts quicker – making anniversary shopping much easier and far more enjoyable!
Iolite is a blue to violet-blue gemstone. Often overshadowed by more popular blue stones, it's not as easy to find in contemporary jewellery.
Spinel comes in a variety of colours and is durable and affordable; however it's another gemstone that doesn't get enough love. You'll often see it in red, purple, blue and pink, though black spinel offers a dramatic look, either as a centre stone or as accents.
The name "imperial topaz" simply refers to topaz that can range from yellow to deep golden colour often likened to cognac. So while women can have their jewellery, perhaps men can be given a fine bottle of cognac to toast the 23rd wedding anniversary.
Tanzanite is fairly modern; it was first found in the late 1960s. It's a blue gem, often found in a purplish/violet tone. It looks particularly appealing with white metals such as white gold, platinum or sterling silver and is available in a wide range of styles and settings. Tanzanite is often heat-treated to improve the colour and the treatment is considered permanent.
The 25th wedding anniversary is known as the 'silver jubilee,' and there's a wide range of jewellery available in sterling silver for both him and her. You don't have to limit yourself to silver as you can embrace the silvery colour and opt for white gold or platinum jewellery if you prefer.
