We’ll tell you what we want, what we really, really want. We want to put a scrunchie in our hair, throw on a plaid mini-skirt and matching cropped blazer and head to the Smash Hits Poll Winners Party. Ahh, those were the days. And - Britney style - they're hitting us baby, one more time.

How to Nail ‘90s Fashion with ‘90s Inspired Jewellery

Yes, the 90s have made a welcome return, and we’re totally here for it.

From denim dungarees worn with a chunky chain necklace and itty bitty crop tops paired with a delicate pendant, to the fresh but formal pinstripe waistcoat look (with a side of gold hoop earrings to give the outfit an edge), ‘90s fashion was as free as it was colourful. There was something for everyone. Whether you were grunge, preppy, or punk, ‘90s style was all about variation.

But what was ‘90s clothing without ‘90s jewellery? Jewellery finishes an outfit. Whether we’re talking the ‘70s, ‘80s, ‘90s or now, jewellery brings an outfit to life. Just as ‘90s Whitney hit all the right notes, if you want to hit the perfect style notes, you’ve got to finish that outfit with the perfect jewellery.

Bringing ‘90s Trends Back to Life In 2023

Now, we’re not going to lie, fashion in the ‘90s was hit and miss, especially jewellery. Layering meant piling on so many chains and lockets you had to engage your core to stand up. Rings? The more the merrier, the bigger the better. Looking back, it seems the mantra was ‘more is more’.

But we’re glad to see that whilst some ‘90s trends have returned, people seem to be embracing the best bits of ‘90s fashion and leaving the dodgy looks in the past where they belong (bye-bye black lace and velvet chokers a la Morticia Addams).

So, what are the main ‘90s style trends we are welcoming back with open arms? Let’s take a look.

Chokers

We’re seeing a resurgence in chokers of the right kind; delicate silver and gold chokers with dainty detailing such as gemstones and pendants. Worn with the perfect gold necklace, you’re hitting three trends in one – chokers, layering, and gold jewellery.

Anklets

Anklets are back! Though to be honest, we can’t understand how they ever went out of style. There’s no competition when comparing the anklets of the ‘90s to now though. Back then it was all colourful cotton and seashell detailing, but we’re loving gold and silver anklets that give a modern take on this unique jewellery style. And don’t be afraid to wear more than one at a time either because the stack is back...

Ear Cuffs and Ear Curation

Stacking jewellery is so in Vogue right now, and this goes all the way up to the ears. Whether you stack with ear cuffs, hoops or stud earrings, or have various parts of the ear pierced, ear curation looks amazing and adds a powerful style statement to any up-do. We already know that ear stacks are back with a vengeance. Go on, show off those lovely lobes.

Bracelets and Bangles

In the ‘90s, a huge jingly jangly bracelet stack halfway up your forearm was a treat for the eyes and the ears. And it wasn’t just chunky metal we were adorning our wrists with. Oh no - bracelet stacking of the ‘90s included a range of styles from cotton to leather, rubber to wooden beads. Yin & yang was huge and many of us took style queues from Bollywood with a stack of slim bangles in a range of vibrant colours (we still love these, to be honest). Bracelets have never really gone out of style. But the way we wear them and pair them has changed. Tennis bracelets are a timeless classic and you can pair these with a gorgeous watch and bangle to get an understated stacked look.

Whilst we’re embracing those huge ‘90s trends with open arms, we’re aware we don’t want to go too far. There were times where the ‘90s made the ‘80s look good, so make sure you pick wisely when channelling your inner Winona Ryder or Christina Aguilera. You don’t want to look back in anger at your style choices.
