Rose Quartz Gemstone Guide

Rose Quartz Gemstone

Rose quartz is a variety of the mineral quartz which exhibits a pink or rosy red hue. Well formed rose quartz crystals are very rare, rose quartz is often hazy and flawed, and it is therefore rarely faceted into gemstone cuts. Rose quartz is more often tumbled to make beads for bracelets and necklaces.

The colour of Rose quartz ranges from pale pink to rosy red. The colour is caused by iron and titanium impurities. The colour makes rose quartz a desirable and attractive gemstone.

Sourcing rose quartz

The only known existing source for well formed rose quartz crystals is in Brazil however rose quartz of a lesser quality is also found in places such as Madagascar, India and Germany.

Caring for rose quartz

Rose quartz is a very durable and hard gemstone. You should store separately in a soft cloth pouch to prevent damage and scratching to other jewellery. Rose quartz is not as sensitive to light as the very similar pink quartz however direct sunlight should be avoided to prevent discolouration. To clean use warm soapy water and a soft cloth.
