Seven-year-old Amber and four-year-old Harry are helping CLIC Sargent to promote the sale of Jasper the CLIC Sargent bear, a new soft toy priced at £9.99 that can be bought at H.Samuel stores across the UK.
Proceeds of Jasper, the 3rd annual cuddly toy from the incredible partnership, will be donated once again to CLIC Sargent. The sale of just five Jasper bears could pay for a CLIC Sargent Play Specialist’s time for one hour, so that they can help a child prepare for and cope with treatment, by using models, toys and photos to explain what will happen.
You can see both Amber and Harry starring in this short film with their families where they explain how buying Jasper can fund CLIC Sargent’s important work supporting children and young people who are going through cancer treatment.
Amber has been supported by CLIC Sargent and Amber’s mum, Lara, told us: “When we heard the diagnosis I just dropped to the floor and everything was just a blur. It felt like I was in a different world and it wasn’t real.
“CLIC Sargent was there for us at any time to help with the big things, like financial help, and the little things, like asking for a parking permit at hospital. When your child is ill your priorities change. CLIC Sargent helped us keep control of the little things when we couldn’t control the big things, like our daughter’s health.”
Amber said of Jasper the bear: “the first time I cuddled him, he was really soft.” Read Amber’s full story here.
Harry was also supported by CLIC Sargent and Harry’s Mum Rachel told us: “Life changed so much in just 48-hours.”
Rachel said of Lucy, their CLIC Sargent Social Worker: “Lucy is really gentle and soft speaking and practical and I don’t know whether she’s trained to speak like that or it’s just her, but it works. The advice she gives you sticks in your head. I can say anything to her, share any worries, and I’m at complete ease. She makes me think the things I need to do without even saying anything. Lucy is great, they all are.”
Harry said of Jasper the bear: “I like his hat.” Read Harry’s full story here.
Harry came into the world as a “little miracle” on December 10, 2011. His parents had been through the trauma of six miscarriages before he came along. In July 2015 he became ill, and was diagnosed with leukaemia. Harry’s Mum Rachel told Clic, “Life changed so much in just 48-hours. I’d been at work, then I was lying next to my son watching him have a blood transfusion, seeing him have somebody else blood put into his little body.” The emotional impact of cancer on the family, including his older sister has been difficult to deal with but Lucy, their CLIC Sargent Social Worker has helped them through it.

This year, you can also get involved across social media by taking a photo of Jasper in a location and including #wheresjasper
CLIC Sargent is the UK's leading cancer charity for children, young people and their families. When cancer strikes young lives CLIC Sargent helps families limit the damage cancer causes beyond their health.
Cancer doesn't discriminate. Today, 11 more children and young people will hear the devastating news that they have cancer. From diagnosis, CLIC Sargent's specialist care teams will step in, ready to help, support and guide. They will provide a specialist package of support tailored to each young cancer patient and family.
CLIC Sargent fights tirelessly for children and young people with cancer, often when they feel they can't. They do this individually, locally and nationally, so that they can focus on the important things, like getting well. And if the worst happens, they will work with bereaved families to get them support, to help them cope with their emotional pain.
Iconic to the fundraising of H.Samuel is Jasper, the CLIC Sargent Bear, which is sold in stores nationwide.
Jasper, the CLIC Sargent Bear was inspired by the Hickman Line teddy bear that CLIC Sargent Play Specialists use to help children understand the treatment they might need to have for cancer. CLIC Sargent Play Specialists might use toys or models to explain the different types of treatment to help a child reduce any worries they might have.
For every Jasper bought in H.Samuel stores, all profits will be donated to CLIC Sargent in the UK and Barretstown in Ireland. The sale of five Jasper bears could pay for one hour of a CLIC Sargent Play Specialist's time to help children prepare for and cope with treatment.
