H.Samuel Introduces the Keepsake Collection

The Keepsake range from H.Samuel consists of five vintage style pieces of jewellery combining the famous wedding traditions, something old, new, borrowed and blue. Each piece represents all the elements of the famous traditional rhyme. The collection was created to incorporate those features and make an ideal gift for the bride from perhaps either the groom or mother of the bride.

Wedding Traditions

There are all sorts of traditions relating to weddings that date back thousands of years. For instance seeing the bride in her dress before the wedding is thought to be bad luck or throwing confetti in celebration over the couple when the ceremony has ended. Here in the UK such traditions are popular and also fun to incorporate them into the day.

Something Old, New, Borrowed, Blue

The rhyme that originated from Victorian times is 'Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue, and a silver sixpence in your shoe.' Each something in the rhyme refers to what the bride wears on the special day for good luck. Wearing something old represents the brides' old life, usually a piece of jewellery that's been in her family, and new represents the bride's new life. A borrowed item is traditionally from another bride for luck and something blue which did represent purity. The silver sixpence aspect of the tradition was to go in the brides shoe to bring her wealth and happiness.

The Range

The Keepsake collection is made up of five delicate necklaces each with an element of the rhyme.

• Borrowed designs, the classic design of each piece borrowed from the past.
• Blue topaz, each necklace has a secret hidden blue topaz.
