Watch movement

As well as thinking about cost, style and how the watch will be used, you also have a range of movements to choose from. The movement is the mechanism that powers the watch and controls the hands.

There are basically two kinds of movement; mechanical and electronic.

Mechanical: Essentially, clock-work, with moving parts and either wind up or automatic movements.

Electronic: movements mostly feature no moving parts and are battery or motion driven.

As a rule of thumb mechanical watches tend to be in the medium to high price range, whilst electronic watches cover all price ranges.
