Charms and Beads History

Since the beginning of history humans have used charms and beads in jewellery. From the early use of stones and seeds through to the development of jewellery, precious metals and gemstones, humans have used charms and beads to bring good luck, ward off evil and symbolise religion.

Lucky Charms

Beads and charms have had many meanings through history and have been used to ward off evil, show people where you come from, what your religion is, bring good luck and just to look good. So when you wear modern charm jewellery and beads, you are wearing culture and history.

Modern Charm History

From this early history beads and charms have come in and out of fashion. Queen Victoria was a big fan of charms and many soldiers coming back from World War II bought trinkets back home with them which were then used as charms. In the 1950's and 1960's American teenagers gave each other beads and charms for special occasions, or to commemorate events, celebrate relationships, friendships, birthdays and anniversaries.

Modern Beads

European charm bracelets started to become fashionable in the 1970's with the Danish Troll Bead and have become the personalised jewellery phenomenon that we know today. Brands such as Chamilia and Truth jewellery perfectly represent this new approach to charm and bead jewellery.
