Anniversary Gemstone Guide

Anniversary Gemstones and Jewellery

Silver and gold wedding anniversaries are well known, marking the milestones of twenty five and fifty years of marriage respectively. A gemstone anniversary list was endorsed by the Jewellers of America and many other gem associations, matching each anniversary year to a specific gemstone or metal. It differs from the traditional anniversary gift list, allowing you to get to the good gifts quicker – making anniversary shopping much easier and far more enjoyable!

30th anniversary: pearl jubilee

Both cultured and natural pearls are created by layers, making it the perfect symbol for the years and love that have grown over time. The layers are called 'nacre,' giving pearls their luminescence. Since it's also the gem for the third anniversary, this is the perfect time to upgrade after all these wonderful years. Look into the various coloured pearls available – there are so many colours beyond white.

35th anniversary: emerald

Emerald is such a classic gemstone, it comes up twice on the anniversary list and you may have come across it for your twentieth year anniversary as well. Whatever you opted for last time, this year could be a great opportunity to create a set, for example, you could purchase an elegant pair of earrings to complement the necklace she got 15 years ago.

40th anniversary: ruby

Another repeat here, ruby is also the gem for the fifteenth. But its draw remains – that gorgeous red that is the essence of love and passion

45th anniversary: sapphire

If sapphire slipped your mind 40 years ago, when it was the gem for the fifth anniversary, it's time to make up for that! Or if you did purchase a classic blue sapphire then, consider a piece in one of the other colours of sapphire, or choose a piece to complement the jewellery you got all those years ago.

50th anniversary: golden jubilee

What better gift than a gift of gold on your fiftieth wedding anniversary? For him, perhaps you could buy a classic gold pocket watch. For her, you could look into purchasing a higher carat gold jewellery piece with an 18 carat gold ring. Or perhaps a gold jewellery piece in yellow, white or rose gold, set with diamonds and/or gemstones.
