Ever since Seiko launched the world's first quartz watch in 1969, Seiko's engineers were already working on the next step; to create a quartz watch that would generate its own power. In 1988, after 19 years of R&D and 50 patent applications, Seiko succeeded in creating the Kinetic watch
Seiko Kinetic is a hybrid movement with features from both quartz and mechanical technology, taking the best of both – quartz accuracy with no battery change and a power reserve of up to 4 years, depending upon the model.
Like mechanical and quartz, Kinetic is a platform. Over the past 20 years Seiko has created a suite of Kinetic movements, each bringing unique features to the consumer. Seiko Kinetic features in many of the watch collections with varied styling, functions and features to meet all needs. Kinetic watch technology is exclusive to Seiko.
